First Days and Fresh Starts
Whether it was 2004 or 2005, all three remember their first days like they were yesterday.
Noelene, who joined in May 2005, vividly recalls stepping into the office at 71 Fifth Avenue with a mix of curiosity and uncertainty. “How was I going to move from a small, male-led firm to a team of 30 women led by Mrs Hunter?” she wondered. “Now, 20 years later, I’m proud to say I did.”
Deshini remembers being welcomed warmly: “Everyone was so friendly and made me feel really welcome.”
For Loryn, moving from the platteland to the city made that first day especially memorable. “It was daunting, but it marked the start of a meaningful journey.”
What’s Kept Them Here
Their stories may differ, but a common thread runs through all three; a deep connection to the people and purpose of the firm.
Deshini speaks of the firm’s positive culture and Karien’s steady leadership, saying it gave her a strong foundation both personally and professionally.
Loryn credits the security of her role and the bonds formed with colleagues who have become like family.
Noelene points to the inspiring teamwork and the tireless example set by Mrs Hunter: “Watching her constantly engage with clients, lead by example, and drive the business forward kept us all moving.”
From Paper to Portals: Embracing Change
Over two decades, the conveyancing landscape has shifted; and so has AMC Hunter Inc.
Back in the early 2000s, paralegals handled entire transactions from start to finish. As banking systems digitised, the firm adapted. Now, work is streamlined with paralegals focusing on specific transaction types and banks.
Loryn highlights the development of new client relationships and the positive impact of embracing technology.
Deshini notes how much she has personally grown, thanks to the firm’s supportive, ever-evolving environment.
Moments That Matter
Among their fondest memories:
- Noelene recalls the firm’s 20th anniversary outing to Tala Game Reserve, and the fulfilment of helping first-time homeowners.
- Deshini beams when she remembers being recognised by ABSA bank for excellent service.
- Loryn finds joy in having mentored others, saying her favourite memories are seeing colleagues thrive with the knowledge she’s shared.
